How it Works
At BASE, each fish auction is controlled through our electronic system—bringing speed, structure and transparency to every transaction.
Our fish auctions begin at 6 a.m., Monday through Friday. Before each sale, product is unloaded, culled by count, weighed, boxed, iced, and stored in the cooler—organized in 100- to 1,500-pound lots by species and size. This layout ensures a consistent and efficient auction process.
Once the auction begins, bidding moves quickly. For each lot, the winning buyer has a few seconds to select the quantity—anywhere from a single lot up to 15,000 pounds. The seller then has a brief window to either accept or scratch the bid.
If scratched, the lot rolls into a second auction. A third round may follow if necessary.
Fishing vessels offload daily between 11 a.m. and 4 a.m. the next morning. Everything that’s landed is prepared promptly for the next day’s sale—keeping quality high and the process moving.
