How it Works
BASE’s electronic system runs each scallop auction with precision—keeping the process fast, fair and transparent.
The auction begins at 9 a.m., Monday through Friday. Before any bids are placed, product is offloaded, culled by count, weighed, iced, and placed in the cooler. Lots are grouped by harvest area and size, ranging from 100 to 1,500 pounds.
Bidding moves quickly. The winning buyer has a few seconds to claim a quantity—up to 20,000 pounds of the same size and area. The seller then has a brief moment to either accept or scratch the bid.
Scratched lots move into a second auction round, with a third round available if needed.
Scallop vessels unload daily from 11 a.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning, with product prepared promptly for the next day’s sale.
